Re-advertised: Call for expression of Interest

14 May 2026
News release
Reading time:

The Global Leaders Group (GLG) on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) was established in November 2020 by the Quadripartite organizations (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, United Nations Environment Programme, World Health Organization, and World Organisation for Animal Health) to accelerate political action on AMR, based on a One Health approach.

In line with the GLG Terms of Reference,  the Quadripartite Joint Secretariat on AMR is re-advertising this call for expressions of interest for new GLG members to fill current vacancies and strengthen sectoral and geographic balance across the One Health spectrum.

The GLG welcomes expressions of interest from serving or former government ministers or equivalent, as well as C‑suite–level leaders from the private sector, with demonstrated leadership experience and knowledge across One Health sectors. Under this re‑advertised call, we particularly encourage applications from qualified leaders in the agriculture/livestock, animal health, and environmental sectors to strengthen One Health representation within the GLG, while continuing to welcome strong candidates across all One Health portfolios.

GLG role

Since its establishment, the GLG has actively carried out its mission to advise on and advocate for increased political action in the global response to AMR, guided by a rolling action plan with six priority areas and several key performance indicators.  The GLG played a leading role in advocating for the United Nations General Assembly High-level Meeting on AMR held in September 2024, and in helping to shape the political declaration from that meeting. Following up on that the GLG revised its rolling action plan to support implementation of the political declaration, including in the key areas of financing, governance, surveillance, monitoring, and research and development.

Further information about the work of the GLG is available at its website.

Level of commitment

The GLG formally meets around three times a year, either virtually or in person.  Informal or technical meetings to discuss specific issues are held virtually on an ad hoc basis. GLG members are expected to play an active and visible role in advancing the Group’s mission, including by contributing substantively to strategic political and policy discussions, reviewing and shaping documents, and championing action on AMR within their respective leadership areas and networks. Members may be also invited to represent the GLG in international fora and to support advocacy and awareness-raising efforts at global, regional and national levels. New GLG members will be expected to join the GLG in the third quarter of 2026 for an initial two-year term.

Selection process

Members will be selected on the basis of their political and/or professional experience and must have demonstrated knowledge of or commitment to becoming familiar with AMR in human, animal or plant health, food production or the environmental sectors. The selection process will take into consideration gender balance, geographic diversity and representation from across the One Health spectrum. No honorarium is paid to GLG members.
